Years before the people were expressing in unorganized formal way their sympathy for one of the girls or brides of the village, considering from her graces and personified as a well-dressed, clean and healthy. The estimation was made at the time on the way to fountain of the village or in Sunday’s ceremony in the Church. She was turned into a symbol of beauty and all were tried to imitate her on how she was dressed, behaved, on walking and singing. The roots of the event can be traced to religious ceremonies that originated in the churches of the villages Selce, Vermosh and Vukel. Inhabitants from throughout the region (and from the overseas Albanian diaspora, emigrated to the US, Canada and England) come to celebrate the sacred ceremony. After the ceremony, all the new brides of that year present themselves dressed in colorful traditional clothes. The feast starts with a traditional dance of the area called “the dance of Logu”. The feast continues with songs, dances and a competition to select the most impressive bride. The brides wear traditional clothes during the wedding ceremony and with the same clothes they compete in the day of Logu feast. The traditional outfits known as “xhubleta” have been worn for centuries by women in northern Albania. The “xhubleta” is a bell shaped dress, made up of horizontal strips of wool of different length, small at the top, getting longer to the bottom and becomes wavy, especially in the back.Years before Logu i Bjeshkeve had religious nature and was organized on the day of St. Prendes (Shna Prendes) in the Highland was known as the feast of Mountaineers (bjeshkatareve, those who live in the mountains). This is the reason why it’s called “Logu i Bjeshkeve”.Logu i Bjeshkeve – Day of Logu a not to be missed cultural identity with typical music, dance and clothes.
